I’m a Yankee Doodle Dandy (or Just a Yankee, Let’s be Honest)

When I was little, I used to think that song by Neil Diamond, the one where he’s all like “They’re coming to America (Today!)”, was the most patriotic song ever.

I used to sneak into the living room, where we were most definitely not allowed to play, and put that on the record player and choreograph elaborate routines to it that would instill in anyone who watched me dance a great love of this country and the wide variety of people who come here to live.

I was a weird child.

Right, but weird.

  1. There were many a times I rocked out to that song…. What’s so strange about liking Neil?? The hair??

  2. Ha, we totally should threaten to put on a routine together and make people pay us to NOT inflict it on them.

  3. I totally worshipped that song.

In fact, I loved the whole album.

::Heads over to iTunes to see if whole album is there for purchase::

  4. I once went with a friend when he became a legal resident in Los Angeles, and at the official government ceremony, this is the song they played as everyone got their citizenship cards.
