When it comes to ground beef, the dog and I have a ritual. The humans eat the beef and I roll her dog food around in the grease at the bottom of the pan and she eats the dog food. We’ve been doing it this way her whole life. No problems. She loves it and it seems to help her dry skin.
So, with the switch to ground turkey, I just assumed…
America, maybe it’s because we just got the frozen turkey that comes in a tube, but you know why I didn’t cover any plants last night nor bother bringing the peppers inside?
Because I spent the evening tending to a sick dog. And by sick, I mean, shitting all over the place.
I can’t even talk to you about it, it’s so gross. She was grossed out. I was grossed out. We’d run outside and she’d seem to be done, like it wouldn’t be possible for her to have anything more to shit, and we’d come back inside and…
Oh, god, I’m going to have to start going back to therapy.
Anyway, I’ve got to tell you, anything that does that to a dog? I feel like I’m doing something bad to myself by eating it.
At least Mrs. Wigglebottom seems to have turned a corner and is back to her old self this morning. Thank the gods with a soft spot for dogs.
Of course, her old self was dragging my ass all over while she tried to bark and bark and bark at our new neighbor dog, but what the hell? I’ll take it.

it’s not necessarily the food so much as the change in food. frozen ground turkey in a tube is just fine to feed to dogs, but when an old pup’s been used to something else for years, that kind of thing’ll happen.
let me tell you about the time we had to put a litter box in the garage for the stray cat that was messing in there anyways… and then the huskies got into the litterbox… and vomited up the contents inside the house. THAT, aunt B., was GROSS.
B, dogs and humans don’t have the same digestive systems. Chocolate is poison to them, for instance. I’m horribly sorry that Mrs. W was sick, and glad she’s better, but you’re not seriously going to base your own eating habits on which enzymes dogs secrete, now are you?
Oh, and how did the plants come through?
at least you’re not waking up to what amounts to a minefield of cat puke….
It may be crazy, nm, but actually, I think I am. Not that I’m going to switch back to beef for my everyday ground meat needs, but I am going to switch from that brand of frozen turkey.
I hope Mrs. W appreciates you, is all.
