Yesterday on West End

Coming home from lunch, I saw a bunch of police at the park.

Then coming out of the grocery store, I saw a kid who hit a guy in the head with a skateboard take off running towards the park.

Then, I was picking up some stuff for the Butcher and saw some kids trying to steal newspapers out of a box by the McDonald’s (which, of course, is both bad and good.  Bad for stealing but good for being committed to reading).

I don’t know what other nefarious things went on yesterday, so I don’t have any way of knowing if there’s some other catalyst or if I have the power to cause crime to happen around me.

  1. And me, I took my kid to the park and discovered that things are worse than I thought. The economy up here has gotten so quietly bad that the city is sending lunch wagons around to the city parks to feed kids a sandwich so they don’t starve during the summertime when school is out. Your choice: ham or peanut butter. A local church sent around some young men to play Gospel hoops and distribute school supplies. And of course there were Mormons looking like they’d rather be over on the tennis courts, befriending the non-English speaking with their mad mangled Spanish.
