An Open Letter to Benjamin Bratt’s Fans

There seems to be a slight misunderstanding–I like Benjamin Bratt.  I think he’s a great actor and I have enjoyed him in everything I’ve seen him in, including the weirdly crappy show he’s in now.  Let me just reiterate that, in spite of the grandpa-ly advice we’ve all gotten, that you can’t polish a turd, Bratt has put a shine on that thing he’s in now.

That is all.

  1. That’s funny, Aunt B. I think Bratt is too leaden to be a good actor, but I like him anyway. If he picks the right roles, he’s easy to watch. He was good in Law & Order.

  2. Thanks, Aunt B., for both your open letter and your original posting.

As a Bratt fan for over 9 years, I’ve been getting good at separating the man from the role. I highly recommend seeing him on the talk show circuit — what a charming, loving, funny guy he shows himself to be!

I also appreciate your points, given that families can get very weird when addiction (current or former) is part of the mix. In an effort to pull together something dramatic, the show’s writers are straying into that weirdness and not showing any way out. Where’s the scene with the family therapist shining the spotlight on Daughter accidently becoming Wife?

Anyway, I appreciate what you’ve been saying!

  4. Thanks, Teresa. I really believe that the premise of the show is good, that they have an interesting cast in place, and that if the writers were better, it would be really, really interesting television. There are a lot of really compelling problems they could be wrestling with and I wish they would, because Bratt could bring a whole lot more to that character than they’re giving him to work with.
