The Dog Update

I just got off the phone with the vet.  They had a couple of cancellations today and so were able to go ahead and operate on her this afternoon.  The meniscus was torn and they were able to do they repair they had planned on.  But she also had a lot of arthritis in her knee, more than he was expecting to see, and there’s a lot of cartilage damage.  He did some kind of procedure to clean up the joint and stimulate healing, but he says that the arthritis makes her prognosis not quite as good.  She’s probably always going to have some joint pain, but fixing the knee will make it more usable for her.

So, she has to be on morphine for 24 hours and we’ll be able to go get her on Thursday.

  1. Hang in there B. I know you’re worried (even tho that was mostly good news), but she’ll be home and asking for belly rubs soon.

Just think how wonderful it’s going to be to see her REALLY enjoying her new yard after she gets good and healed up.

  2. Good news! and less to worry about. I hope she feels better soon.

Perhaps if the vet’s office knew that she is the “Famous PitBull Wearing Lipstick” they might want a headshot and autograph for their wall.

  3. Glad to hear she’s through surgery and on the mend. When Luce had her first knee surgery done they said she had some arthritis in there that they cleaned out (which sounds scary to me!) and that she’ll always have arthritis, but repairing the knee will slow down the progression of it. Joint supplements are good, too.

Wishing Mrs. Wigglebottom a speedy and uneventful recovery!
