Both of my brothers are made at me for telling them the big Meet the Press News thirty-five minutes before they intended to watch it.
Anyway, I said I’d give them a dollar if they explained who the Black Keys are, because I’m tired of pretending like I have any idea who they are, so now we’re watching them on my TV, which is pretty wild. How did my brothers develop the ability to answer any questions I have with an appropriate television show?
I’m just wondering what other questions I should try to get answered.
Anyway, my brother reports that even the Georgia racists are considering voting for Obama, if Powell endorses him (to bring this post full circle). As he pointed out, if you’re a Republican and even the Klan is wavering on voting for you, you’ve got some problems with your base.

Yes, the hardcore racists in my family (perhaps coincidentally, the ex-military usually reflexively Republican voters who had been in McCain’s pocket until his appointment of Palin) are also at least talking about (with rueful reluctance) about “voting the nigger ticket” this time out. I don’t think the older people will do it (they plan on staying home), but the younger ones might. They can all think of at least one “exception” to their categorical idea that black people are stupid and malicious and sneaky (like Colin Powell), so I think that once you start making exceptions, it becomes a little easier to imagine that Obama could be an exception too. Their fear of a black president is less, on balance, than their fear that they’ll wind up governed by a woman. Some progress.
Plus, he hasn’t gotten shot yet. It must be said that this has been something that the boys on the porch have been discussing a lot and now that they believe that Obama might make it to election day alive, he’s looking like a more viable option.
Yeah, except that I’ve always had the ability to clue you in to stuff via an appropriate TV show. The real problem is getting you to watch it for more than 2 minutes.
It probably helps if there is music.
I will also offer that ignoring the white keys is racist.
