It’s All Broken, at Least a Little Bit

There was a concrete block from the back yard in the front yard. And carpet wrapped around the willow tree. If you’re missing your carpet upstream from us, I’m sorry to report that it’s in no shape for you to have it back.

The shelves in the grocery store are half empty. The trucks in the parking lot have beds filled with wet suitcases and bags full of clothes.

There was a box in the middle of Old Hickory Boulevard, its contents spilled onto the asphalt. We could not tell if it was trash or someone’s last hope, left behind.
