Like Perry Como? Perry Como Himself?

My husband is coming home from World War II. We like popular music, but nothing too daring. Who do we want to hear? I’m looking for someone big in ’46. Ubiquitous. But my sense is that Perry Como might be just a few years later than that. But someone like him.

  1. On behalf of Nashville, you might consider Dinah Shore. It’s true that Como and Sinatra had #1 hits. Yet there was a WWII hits collection called “When Dinah Shore Ruled the Earth.” Some of her hits’ titles might work for ya, too:
    1943
“You’d Be So Nice to Come Home To” 3 10
    “Murder He Says” 5 —
“Something to Remember You By” 18 —
    1944 “I’ll Walk Alone” 1 10
    “Together” 19 —
    1945 “Sleigh Ride in July” 8 —
    “Candy” 5 —
    “He’s Home for a Little While” 11 —
“Along the Navajo Trail” 7 —
    “But I Did” 16 —
    “My Guy’s Come Back” 14 —
    1946 “Personality” 10 —
“Shoo-Fly Pie and Apple Pan Dowdy” 6 —
“Laughing On the Outside (Crying On the Inside)” 3 —
    “The Gypsy” 1 —
“All That Glitters Is Not Gold” 9 —
    “Doin’ What Comes Natur’lly” 3 —
“You Keep Coming Back Like a Song” 5
