Esther Phillips’s version of “Crazy Love”

America, if you have but ninety-nine cents, you need to run out and buy this song from iTunes.

I wish I had more to say about the topic, but I am dumbfounded by how much I love this song.

  1. Anything from the vast treasure chest of Van Morrison can pretty much rock my face. Ms. Esther has been purchased.

This has been the kind of day where that song will join Joe Cocker’s cover of “Into The Mystic” on my repeat-play deck.

  2. I was looking for Van Morrison’s version, and came across this one instead and was all “Esther Phillips? I have to try this.” and it just gets me right in the gut. There’s something about the way that she sings that makes me feel like the world is heavy, but art can make it tolerable. That gives me hope.

I can honestly say that art is the primary reason I lived through my teen years. Music literally saved my life!

Man, if you loved that, you should check out Mavis Staples’ “Hard Times Come Again No More”.
Staples does the same thing there.
