Is It Just Me?

Or is Steve Earle looking more and more like a Muppet every day?

I have to admit, I kind of like the idea of men hitting a certain age and coming to resemble the puppets of my youth, but I watched a lot of public television, so I wonder if it bothers other folks.

  1. I have a few responses to this:

    1) Well, at least he doesn’t look like Walon (his character on The Wire) any more.

    2) Muppets are cute, but they are not hot. No matter what Steve Earle does, he’s hot. Ergo, he doesn’t look like a Muppet.

    3) He’s evidently just started filming in some new movie (Leaves of Grass, with Susan Sarandon and Richard Dreyfuss), and I think the new look is his character for that. I do hope so.

  2. I have to admit that last year on my anniversary my husband and I went out to dinner and happened to be a table away from Steve, who had evidently just gotten back to Nashville after finishing up The Wire. He still had that dreadful hair and beard. I had the closest I will ever come to having a “ewwwww” experience related to him.

  3. Copperhead Road is in the latest edition of the Norton Anthology as a poem. I shit you not and it made my day as the song pretty much describes my family’s experience. I play it in class when discussion cultural reactions to the Vietnam War.

And no matter what he looks like now, at least he doesn’t look like he would fit in in Winger or Slaughter like he did in the Copperhead Road video.
