Though I have failed to figure out how to convince Gretchen Wilson or Tanya Tucker to cover “I’m Going to Hire a Wino,” I still sit around thinking about covers people would be forced to do if I were queen. This morning, on my way to work, I realized that the world needs Buddy Miller’s take on “Beer and Bones,” which is already a fine song, but could really benefit from being performed by someone who can make his voice sound like it’s nothing but beer and bones.
I’m also pondering what kick-ass woman should do a cover of “The Devil and the Farmer’s Wife.” Would it be cliched to insist on a young Liz Phair?
And so I ask, what covers do you think need to be made?
I can tell you that Tanya’s new album, coming out in June, will have a cover of “You Don’t Know Me.” I think that needed to be made.
That is not a cover I would have thought of, but yes, exactly. I am now pretty eager to hear that.
I can’t think of any covers, but I’ve long been wishing for a full-on Bollywood treatment of Northanger Abbey.
