I admit, it’s been a long time since I’ve had a full sized Snickers. Usually, the Butcher will bring home a bag of the miniature ones and then we’ll fight about who ate them all. But today I had a full-sized Snickers and I must ask, are Snickers smaller than they used to be? Like circumference-wise? I swear this thing was like the size of a Twix.
Does size really matter when it’s delicious?
Does size really matter when it’s delicious?
That’s a loaded question if I’ve ever seen one.
Yes, they are. I think they’re now 2oz smaller than they used to be.
There was a change in packaging with most of the M&M/Mars candy brand a few years ago.
They switched from fun size and regular size to Mini, Fun size, Regular Size and King Size.
That repackaging was how they dealt with the rising cost of ingredients, that way they wouldn’t alienate their main price point by making the “regular” bar cost too much.
And I feel stereotypical for knowing this much about candy.
Since I don’t like chocolate much, I don’t buy many candy bars, but every once in a while I’ll get a craving for an old favorite or something new that looks cool.
I think they’re ALL smaller than they used to be. I reached for a 3 Musketeers one day while standing in line at Kroger and when I got home and unwrapped, it just seemed so small. Back in the old days those were pretty doggoned big, for candy bars.
I think they all are except for Reese’s PBC. They don’t seem to have changed much.
It’s what I’ve heard called a ‘stealth price increase’. Instead of increasing the price tag they make the result smaller. It’s really bad with cereal because the manufacturer just puts less cereal in the same size box. Since the box is the same you don’t realize you’re getting less cereal in it.
They’ve also stopped putting the little piece of cardboard in the package for the candy bar to sit on in most varieties. Saves a quarter cent, but now my Butterfinger is always broken into tiny pieces.

Snickers & 3 Musketeers are all distributed by the same company: M&M/Mars
So are Milky Ways, M&Ms, Dove chocolates and Mars bars.
