I’m going to have to go back to my Greece pictures to be certain, but I’m pretty sure this is a replica of the Temple of the Chorines at the Acropolis.
That would be awesome to know. We were trying to decide if they were maybe Muses but they seemed to be the same on both sides (so just four women not…well, nine, so I guess they couldn’t be muses) and the one seems to have a cross on her chest.
It’s definitely the Chorines. It’s not letting me attach the photo, but that’s what it is. I’ll email it to you.
the female forms are called “caryatids” – Kristin is right, there is a monument featuring them on the Acropolis.
Oops. Make that definitely NOT Chorines. They’re Caryatids. It’s the Porch of the Maidens, which is part of the Erechthion, one of the lesser temples at the Acropolis.
Ha! But in Greek they’re called korai. So I was kind of not quite entirely wrong.
