- Brentwood just happens to keep old houses lying around. This would have been contemporaneous to Ashland.
- I’m kind of fascinated by what’s going on with the porch framing here.
- The side door. Ashland, at the moment, has no side door.
- I’m very curious as to whether that’s an original staircase (or in the original style, anyway).
- This house is built around an old cabin Ashland’s age.
- I hadn’t seen this house before, but note–haint blue porch ceiling.
- Round table in the doorway (and also note those old-fashioned stairs. That’s what I’d expect in the other house.)
- Rose in front of the chimney. So, that made me feel like Ashland seems like a real place.
- And then it has this little side door next to…
- …this big side door. Ashland, as we speak, has no little side door. Not that it matters to anyone but me, but it matters to me.
- This is the Cool Springs house, I guess I should point out. I don’t know what the other one is called. But, anyway, it’s a great example of porches that have been converted into hallways, a la Ashland.
- And here I am on the side porch at Ravenswood, where I retreated to and wrote.
