  1. The comments on that article (at least so far) are … interesting, and tend to reinforce the article’s point.

    That said, I think the writer is dead wrong about using “guilt” to describe a proper mindset and using guilt as a motivator. Since she’s bothering to deal with German ideas about guilt, she ought to take another clue from the Germans, and talk about her own (and other white people’s) responsibilities towards others*. Since each of us, in any relationship, have responsibilities to each other, with no stigma attached, I think it’s a lot more useful as a motivator to action.

    *This is a distinction contemporary Germans make, for example, in dealing with or discussing the Holocaust.
