I Present a Baby Kicking and Hitting a Cat

People, who the hell knows with cats? The cat in this video clearly dislikes being hit and kicked by the baby and yet, he seems to be making an effort to tolerate it.

I think it’s because cats have such low opinions of people already that a little one that can’t really control its extremities and barfs and poops on itself just seems like a tiny step down to a cat.

Cat’s all like “Eh, it’s really not that much worse than what the big ones do.”

  1. I didn’t really get that the cat was annoyed. Seemed like the cat was kinda curious about the baby. Like, “looks like a person, smells like a person, and my Human Can Opener focuses an inordinate amount of time and energy on it. Clearly it’s an important creature in the household, let me make nice.”

I interviewed an veterinarian once about that old “cats want to suck the life out of babies” wives’ tale, and she also told me babies smell really good to cats: like milk. Cats won’t smother a baby but they will spend a lot of time sniffing them, they’re very curious about them.

  2. This reminds me of my cousin’s video of her 5 year old son dancing around the room. Throughout the video, her dog is in the foreground and the look on the dog’s face CLEARLY says, “Mom, there’s something wrong with this puppy.” It was much funnier than the kid’s antics (cute as he was and is).
